Mercy oversees all cases dealt with in the firm and ensures that she is the first point of contact for new clients. Mercy deals exclusively with matters involving complex legal issues, cases of particularly high value, or with corporate and business interests. Mercy has also developed a particular interest in carefully analysing and computing claims on behalf of non-married parents, usually mothers for the benefit of their children. Having developed a vocation for family law Mercy set up her own firm specialising in all areas of family work in 1983, leading on to a part time judicial appointment for a number of years.

Mercy has for several years been personally recommended in industry guides as a Leading Individual in Family Law, including Legal 500 and Chambers UK.

A particularly rewarding side of the work for Mercy is to see clients moving forward with financial security into a new phase of their lives after the initial shock of their relationship breakdown. Mercy was described in the Legal 500 2011 as “a strong character that is determined to achieve the best results and is extremely kind, positive and supportive".

In her spare time Mercy is a somewhat obsessive gardener and enjoys renovating old houses.

Harpreet Saund

Legal Executive

Harpreet specialises in cases involving children. Harpreet runs her own case load which comprises all children law issues, both under the umbrella of Court proceedings, as well as on a conciliatory basis.

Harpreet’s interest and experience in family law began when she worked as a Paralegal at a niche family law firm in Birmingham City Centre. Harpreet then joined Mercy Messenger in 2007 where she assisted Mercy on financial matters involving high value assets. Harpreet then developed her particular interest involving children and has since specialised in this area.

Harpreet obtains the very best outcome for her clients with which they are immensely pleased and supports them until the end of a case. A former client stated “you were not only my legal representative but also my friend and my counsellor”.

After work Harpreet pursues her hobbies of swimming and reading and is also kept busy with her young daughter..

Harpreet is a member of the Institute of Legal Executives and also a member of Resolution. She is also fluent in Punjabi and Hindi.

Ben Jennings

Litigation Support Manager

Ben's main role within the team is that of assistance to Mercy with particular reference to the litigation aspect of cases. She is extremely experienced in precise and accurate document management and organisation of all documentary evidence which is gathered in support of our clients' cases, and deals with the preparation of all trial bundles and Court paperwork on our litigated files.

Ben has also developed close relationships with Counsel, experts and other professional advisers who assist on our clients' cases and is therefore regularly in attendance to support clients at conferences and/or hearings with Counsel.

Ben has been with the practice since 2001 and over that time has developed her role of providing support to clients from first instructions right through to a successful conclusion.

In the outside world Ben enjoys walking, seeing new places, and her family.

Lauren Parton

Assistant Solicitor

Lauren assists Mercy on her complex and demanding financial cases as well as supporting Harpreet in matters involving children. Lauren also assist with the property aspects of cases, regularly liaising with the Land Registry in respect of conveyancing issues.

Lauren is a Law graduate from the University of Sheffield who joined the practice in 2014 as a paralegal. Lauren’s ambition has always been to become a Solicitor and she was delighted when she was offered a training contract with the firm. Lauren will be admitted as a Solicitor in January 2018.

Lauren is responsible for routine case management activities and also assists with the preparation of Court documents for the litigated files. Lauren has been involved throughout in various litigated cases under the umbrella of both Financial Remedy and Children Act proceedings. In consequence, Lauren has an understanding of the whole variety of cases involving Family Law aspects.

Lauren finds her role rewarding and she is enjoying her exposure to all aspect of Family Law at a practical level.

Outside of work Lauren enjoys going to the gym and socialising with family and friends.

Patrice Coughlin

Trainee Solicitor

Patrice is the first point of contact for many clients and has developed the knowledge to assist clients with many of their enquiries.

Patrice is a law graduate from Aberystwyth University and has graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Masters in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice. Her interest in family law began during her time at university and during work experience which she undertook at a law firm in Northern Ireland which dealt with cases involving family law.

Patrice’s role includes drafting documents which are required for Court, drafting correspondence for clients and making sure the clients are kept up to date with the progress of the case. Patrice’s role also includes making sure clients are made to feel welcome upon their arrival to the office. Patrice is currently studying the LPC part-time simultaneously with her training contract.

Outside of work Patrice enjoys going to the gym and partaking in long distance obstacle course runs.
